UMA is a dancer of unprecedented and graceful intensity, of the Bharathanatyam and Kuchupudi Schools of Classical Indian dance. She began her training as a child of 5 under Padmashri K.N. Dhandayudhapani Pillai and Pursued her passion with Padmashri Adyar K. Lakshman.

Subsequently she devoted herself to Kuchupudi. Padma Bhushan Vempati Chinna Satyam is her guru.

Uma has portrayed the character of Madhavi in Silapadhigaram the “Magnum opus’ production of Shri Madurai. R. Muralidaran .

Uma has recieved innumerable titles and accolades for her outstanding virtuosity, some of them are Natyakala Rathna, (Jewel of Art and Learning), Singaarmani (Jewel of Expression), Yuva Kala Bharathi (Talented Young Dancer) Nadana Mamani (Greatest of Lady Dancers) and Kalaimamani (A Great Exponent of Art).

She has represented Indian Classical Dance in International festivals like festival of India in Muscat, ICCR Festival in Germany, Soorya Global festival in Europe, Gulf Countries and Singapore.
Uma has enthralled audiences with her scintilating style in Australia, Switzerland and Portugal.

She had the privilege of being selected to revive and perform the complex and rare item in Kuchupudi repertoire,"The Simhanandini" (which is about 500 years old, where the dancer draws a lion with her feet) for the "Les Oriental" festival in France)

She performs regularly for 'Semester at Sea', a program in which American students Sail to Chennai to enjoy the Cultural Heritage of South India.

In the year 2006 Uma was invited to Canada to organize workshops and also to conduct the Rangapravesam of her disciple.

The prestigious Khajraho Dance Festival featured her in their February 2007 schedule and she spellbound the rasikas with her enthralling performance.

In April 2007, she presented 'Sura Sundhari Vaibhavam', a thematic group dance production on the celestial dancers , which was supported by the Dept of Culture, Government of India.

She is the Founder-Director of 'Subhasheela Academy of Fine Arts', A Cultural Organization dedicated to promote classical Indian Dance and Music.
