Mrs. Sobha Tammana, director of Kuchipudi Natya Vihar in Lake Zurich, IL is a well-known exponent of Kuchipudi dance. She has started learning dance under the tutelage of “Natya Kala Ratna” Sri Pasumarthy Venkateswara Sarma, a senior disciple of Guru Padmabhushan Dr. Vempati Chinna Satyam, and founder of Sri Bala Tripura Sundari Kuchipudi Natya Kalakshetram.
Sobha mastered Kuchipudi art form for several years under the guidance and tutelage of Sri Pasumarthy Sarma and later with Sri Vempati Ravi, and has given many solo and ballet performances all over India, US and Canada.
In addition, Sobha performed as the lead female artist in many of the dance ballets choreographed by her Guru Sri Sarma. Her portrayal as Mohini in Mohini-Bhasmasura, Sakthi in Mahishasura Mardhini, Parvathi in Parvathi Parinayam, and as Draupadhi in Keechakavadha has won many accolades over the years. Sobha has been awarded prestigious Ponangi Sri Rama Appa Rao award in 2005 for her dedication and contributions to Kuchipudi dance and has received Guinness World Record for her participation in the "largest Kuchipudi dance" organized by Silicon Andhra in June 2008 at Cupertino, CA. Sobha continues to devote herself between teaching and performing. Sobha currently teaches Kuchipudi dance at Rolling Meadows and Lake Zurich, IL locations to many young and aspiring dancers. Sobha is also a full time IT professional currently working at Citi Cards.
