Smt. Usha Goteti is a senior disciple of Padmashri Dr.
Shobha Naidu. She has been learning dance since the age of 4. She acted in the
lead role as a dancer in a movie called “Ayyappa Swamy Mahatyam”. She gave
over 150 Kuchipudi (solo and group) performances, many of them with Dr. Shobha
Naidu. She is a teacher and choreographer as well. One of her students, Sahithi
has received CCRT national dance scholarship.
Gurus/Dance Training
Usha started her dance training with Smt. Vempati Nageswari
at the age of 4. Even at this early age she gave several solo performances. She
continued her training from age 7 with Natyacharya Hemadri Chidambara
Dikshitulu who wrote a book on Kuchipudi called “Kalasagaram” in 1989. He was
so impressed with Usha that he featured her in his book in Rajahmundry. During
this time, film director K. Vasu saw her performance in a dance competition and
offered her the lead dancer role in the popular Telugu devotional movie “Ayyappa Swamy Mahatyam”.
When her family moved to Hyderabad, she became the disciple
of the legendary dancer Dr. Shobha Naidu. She was associated with Dr. Shobha
Naidu for over 15 years and completed the course of study “Natya Visarada” at
Kuchipudi Art Academy. As a senior disciple of Dr. Naidu, Usha taught for
several years at Kuchipudi Art Academy and gave several performances with her.
Performances
Usha acted in the lead role in “Puttadi Bomma Purnamma”, a dance ballet composed by Dr. Shobha
Naidu. It is based on a very famous play written by Telugu literature’s
greatest playwright and social reformer Gurazada Apparao.
Usha received critical acclaim when she performed the role
of Narada along with Dr. Naidu in Sri Krishna Parijatam. She acted as Sita
alongside Dr. Shobha Naidu in Jagadanandakaraka, which is an ingenious
portrayal of epic Ramayana in Kuchipudi style.
Usha performed on SVBC channel in “Nada Neerajanam” series.
She also performed major dance festivals at Konark and Khajuraho.
